Dog Attacks: The Law

Dog attacks are a huge blow emotionally and financially for alpaca owners. But alpacas, along with other ‘exotic species’ are not part of the current legislation that covers farmed animals that are the subjects of dog attacks.

Attempts to reform the law have been going on for years but now the All-Party Parliamentary group and a national Police Working Group have called for a change in the law so that the definition of livestock is upgraded.

Both groups recently published reports about attacks on livestock and, of course, the British Alpaca Society gave evidence that included a member survey.
