Heart and craft

Julia Berry reports from the Royal Three Counties Show

The West Shires Alpaca Group had bumper entries for the Royal Three Counties Alpaca Show for fleece, halter and the new craft show. Competition was hot despite the dreary weather – well actually torrential rain at times!

Friday was fleece show day with 70 fleeces for our judge, Rob Bettinson, to work his way through. There were some beautiful fleeces from both Huacaya and Suri animals and the final placings were close. The Supreme Champion Huacaya fleece went to the Junior Light – GT Breeze owned by GT Alpacas. The Supreme Champion Suri fleece went to the Senior White – Snowshill Galadriel owned by Roger and Mary Mount of Snowshill Alpacas.

Saturday started early with the huacaya halter show in order to get through the 116 animals presented for judging from 30 different breeders. Again, the competition was hot and there were some magnificent animals that came into the ring. The line-up for the Supreme Championship was excellent and made it a hard decision of the judges. Eventually they choose the Intermediate Light Female – Ashwood Lexi owned by Steve and Chris Powell and just to crown their day the Reserve Supreme Champion was awarded to Junior White Male – Ashwood Monty. Special mention also goes to the Best British Bred Huacaya – Snowshill Bugatti who had won the Adult Brown Male Class, owned by Roger and Mary Mount. The progeny classes were also very interesting with Gilt Edge Tour de Force of Ashwood winning the Sires Progeny class.
