Weaving their way

Clivewood Alpacas and The Mill at Clivewood.

Like many other alpaca owners Caroline and Ian Oakes started small with four pet boys on two acres at a previous property. That was 2011 and now here they are in 2019 with 37 alpacas, weaving studios and a mini mill, building an integrated alpacas business on their farm at Clive, just north of Shrewsbury.

Caroline, with a lifelong passion for spinning and weaving, was attracted to the alpaca for its fibre and the natural charm of the alpacas themselves. Having graduated from Harper Adams University as a mature student, the agricultural background to take on a farm was in place.

They purchased a Grade 2 listed Georgian farmhouse with a significant outbuildings complex and 60 acres of grassland surrounding the farmhouse. The purchase was in 2014 and the start of the rapid development of a new business. The initial steps were focussed on building up the alpacas and the weaving.
